not take no for an answer
If
you won't take no for an answer it means that you will only accept an answer of
yes to your request.
Often when someone is in a powerful position they can request something and expect to get it. If the answer to their request is no they may still request
it - they won't take no for an answer.
Imagine that Bill Gates wanted you to work for him.If he offered you $100,000 a year and you said no he could offer you more and more to make you say yes - he wouldn't take no for an answer.

to sweep something under the carpet
Imagine you're sweeping up some dust and dirt in a room. If you are lazy, maybe you pick up one corner of the carpet and sweep the dirt under it - saving you some work, but only hiding the dirt for now. It will probably be found sometime .
That's the origin of this idiom - if you sweep something under the carpet you either avoid doing it or you want to hide it from others.
However, it's possible (maybe even probable) that's what you sweep under the carpet will one day come to light.
So, deal with the issue today - don't sweep it under the carpet!

to go down well
If something goes down well, it is successful.
Last week the test went down well. That means, that I received positive feedback about the test.(Hopefully this week's test went down well with you!)
Imagine you make a speech. If the response you get is positive then you can say that it went down well. However, if everyone sits there looking unhappy then your speech probably didn't go down well.
I baked a carrot cake at the weekend and everybody who ate a piece (or two or three!) said that they liked it. My cake went down well with everybody.

Acorns and Pumpkins
An old poem describes a woman walking through a meadow,
meditating on nature. While strolling about, she came upon a field of golden
pumpkins. In the corner of the field stood a majestic, huge oak tree. She sat
under the oak tree musing on the strange twists in nature which put tiny acorns
on huge branches and huge pumpkins on tiny vines. She thought to herself,
"God blundered with Creation! He should have put the small acorns on the
tiny vines and the large pumpkins on the huge branches." Nodding off, the
woman stretched out under the oak tree for a nap. A few minutes after falling
asleep she was awakened by a tiny acorn bouncing off her nose. Chuckling to
herself, she rubbed her nose and thought, "Maybe God was right after
all!"
