Federer won his record 8th Wimbledon. Then he gave some sage advice for all of us in his post match interview.
Beneath Roger Federer's never ending charm, is a fierce warrior-like competitor that the tennis world has never seen the likes of. Federer's brilliance was on display again on Sunday where he routed Marin Cilic in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 to capture his record setting eight men's Wimbledon singles championship.
His most recent career milestone at Wimbledon and 19th major victory came after many people had written him off just a few months before.
Even Federer Has Haters
Ok, he's too nice to have haters. However, after a lengthy 6-month layoff from the tour last year and a 5-year drought on majors, he did start to develop quite a few non-believers over the past few years.
Many of them have been vocal about it, including John McEnroe. In fact, earlier this year Fred Segal wrote an article outing those experts that publicly stated that Federer would never win another major.
Federer's Brilliant Advice in 5 Words
"I kept believing and dreaming,Federer said in his post match interview after his record setting performance. "If you keep believing you can go really far in life."
Why is this advice so brilliant? It seems so simple, right? Well, the fact is that many people give up on their dreams. They suffer a few defeats and things get hard. Then, they quit and accept a mediocre version of themselves. They make compromises on their dreams. Then, they stop growing, learning, and working on themselves.
It took Federer five long years of hard work to win another Wimbledon. In order to achieve your dreams, you have to keep believing in yourself. It becomes harder and harder after years of losing and coming up short.
But if you can persevere through the hard times, continue to work hard, and keep believing in yourself anything is truly possible.
Roger Federer proved that yet again.
