One of the most important things you can learn is how to sell. Everything you do, in some way or another, revolves around selling - either yourself, your services, or your product. You’ll need to communicate your value to other people in a way that they can understand and relate to, without coming across as pushy.
It's a lot more difficult than you think to effectively communicate your product or yourself to someone else. Most people will never put in the time to realizing this, so just by taking the time to improve yourself, you’re immediately setting yourself apart from almost everyone else.
Step 1: Know the advantages you have and what makes you stand out from everyone else. What makes you better? How can you improve someone else’s experience? What problem does this solve? Write them down. It needs to be a win-win.
Step 2: Communicate with enthusiasm. If you don’t believe what you say, neither will anyone else.
Step 3: Know who your audience is and how to target them. Make sure they want or need your services or product before pitching yourself.
Once you’ve realized what your advantages and selling points are, do your best to internalize it. If you’re an employee, understand what you do better than anyone else. If you’re selling real estate, don’t just sell the house - sell yourself as a professional and demonstrate what sets you apart from everyone else. Know your value and practice communicating it to others.
