as easy as pie
If something is easy as pie then it's really easy. Maybe
you're good at something and find it
very easy to do. If this is the case, then it's as easy as
pie.
I think learning to juggle is as easy as pie. It takes a
little time, but it's very easy to learn.
too good to be true
David: "Hey! There's a colour
television going cheap in the new electrical shop on the high
street. It's only 350 Rs. instead of
5000!"
Mary: "That sounds too good to be
true.Nobody sells a new television for so low a price.
There must be a catch."
You can say that something is too good
to be true when it is just that - too good to be true.
The offer is just too good. Maybe
there's a catch. For example, maybe there is only one
item available at the advertised price.
If a television is reduced in price by
20%, that's a very good offer. But if it's reduced by 70%
then it's probably too good to be true.
It's very rare for companies to cut prices by so much.
If you hear of any offers that are too
good to be true, please let me know!
(If something is 'going cheap', it means that it's on sale
at a lower price than usual.)
to stick to your guns
If someone sticks to their guns then
they do not give in or compromise.
For example, if in negotiations both
parties try very hard to convince the others of their
point of view, or to impose their will
on the other party, then they both stick to their guns.
If that happens, it is relatively
unlikely that the negotiations will have a positive outcome.
If you strongly believe that you are in
the right then you should stick to your guns, and not
give way.
