Love and Time
Once
upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness,
Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love.
One day it was
announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats
and left. Except for Love.
Love
was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible
moment.
When
the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help.
Richness
was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said,
"Richness,
can you take me with you?"
Richness
answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat.
There is no place here for you."
Love
decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel.
"Vanity, please help me!"
"I
can't help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity
answered.
Sadness
was close by so Love asked, "Sadness, let me go with you."
"Oh
. . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"
Happiness
passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love
called her.
Suddenly,
there was a voice, "Come, Love, I will take you." It was an elder. So
blessed and overjoyed, Love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going.
When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Realizing how much
was owed the elder,
Love
asked Knowledge, another elder, "Who Helped me?"
"It
was Time," Knowledge answered.
"Time?"
asked Love. "But why did Time help me?"
Knowledge
smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is capable of
understanding how valuable Love is."

Building
Your House
An
elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his
plans to leave the house-building business to live a more leisurely life with
his wife and enjoy his extended family. He would miss the paycheck each week,
but he wanted to retire. They could get by.
The
contractor was sorry to see his good worker go & asked if he could build
just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but over time
it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy
workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a
dedicated career.
When
the carpenter finished his work, his employer came to inspect the house. Then
he handed the front-door key to the carpenter and said, "This is your
house... my gift to you."
The
carpenter was shocked!
What
a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done
it all so differently.
So
it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our
best into the building. Then, with a shock, we realize we have to live in the
house we have built. If we could do it over, we would do it much differently.
But,
you cannot go back. You are the carpenter, and every day you hammer a nail,
place a board, or erect a wall.
Someone once said, "Life is a do-it-yourself
project." Your attitude, and the choices you make today, help build the
"house" you will live in tomorrow. Therefore, Build wisely!
